Rev. Daniel Poon
Today is Mother’s Day, and Rev. Daniel reminded us some teachings in the Bible regarding our fathers and mothers.
“May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!” (Proverbs 23:25)
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”” (Ephesians 6:1-3)
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.” (Proverbs 1:7-9)
“Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.” (Proverbs 23:22)
Everyone in this world has a mother and being a mother is a 365-day job, where no one can replace her position. Rev. Daniel reminded us that when a mother grows old, she might still treat us as children and continue to remind us things over and over, but never despise her, as her intention is out of love. Mothers try to use her life experience to teach us, and we must recognize her love and her hard work and listen to her teaching. Mothers love their children so much, even are willing to sacrifice her everything for their own good. No matter what you said or did that upset your mother, she will still love you. Let us never have any distance between us and our mothers.
