Armour of God

Sunday, 4th October 2015

Rev. Bruce McDonald

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (Ephesians 6:12-18)

Pastor Bruce shared with us the importance to put on the armour of God everyday. The armour looks good on the parade ground, but it is made for the battle ground. The enemy we fight against are organised with different levels, there are the rulers, authorities, powers of the dark world, and spiritual forces of evil. However, Pastor shared with us that God’s army is also organised and is much bigger than satan’s army!

First of all there are the archangels: Gabriel, Michael, and Lucifer. But Lucifer was jealous of what God could do and he was separated from God. Then there is the Seraphim, which is the 6-winged creature flying around the Throne of God, and after that is the Cherubim, the Four Living Creatures, and the angels. Angels are messengers, and unlike the archangels, they don’t have wings, and they just look like normal people. God sends His angels to look after His children.

“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:1-2)

There are many times people in the Bible saw angels, and even now many believers saw angels in their lives, helping them through trouble times. We don’t walk along, because God’s angels are with us and His Army is fighting for us!

Pastor Bruce shared that as children of God, we should also prepare ourselves to be ready to fight. We are the spiritual beings having an earthly experience and just like every solider, we need to equip ourselves with the full armour of God:

  1. Belt of Truth – to remind us to learn about the truth all the time
  2. Breastplate of Righteousness – to protect our heart through learning the love of God
  3. Shoes of Gospel – to enable us carrying the Good News of Jesus wherever we go
  4. Helmet of Salvation – to protect our minds and thoughts
  5. Shield of Faith – to completely cover ourselves and those around us; to help us look out for one another
  6. Sword of the Spirit – to penetrate the enemies thorough the Word of God
