Rev Daniel Poon
In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 3, John the Baptist talked about Jesus’ coming and the Baptism with the Holy Spirit and Fire. “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11)
As the Book of Matthew was firstly written for the Jewish people, being baptized with fire has great meanings for them. But what does mean now for us? Rev Daniel introduced THREE main ideas behind Baptism with Fire:
1. There is the idea of lighting – light removes darkness, gives direction, and shows the way of truth; when we are baptized with fire, the Light of God shines into our lives and provides a new purpose for us to live.
2. There is the idea of warmth – only the love of Jesus can fulfill our emptiness and warm up our hearts; when we have fellowship with Jesus, He gives us warmth from inside out.
3. There is the idea of purification – everyone has problems in their lives and a dark side that nobody knows, but God can purify us, cleanse us, and give us a brand new life!
