Rev. Daniel Poon
We are always under pressure living in this world, but Rev. Daniel shared with us an important concept – when we are stuck in situations, it is actually a blessing for us to remember that we are only human and we need God.
“Have I not command you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you where ever you go” (Joshua 1:9)
Everyday is a surprise, we cannot predict what may happen, there are car accident, sickness, etc. happening all the time and we can never stick to our schedules. When we are not in control, we become fearful, and only God can take away our inner fear. So how to be strong and courageous? Rev. Daniel shared with us three points to remember:
- God’s Chosen One – Ephesians 1:4-8 tells us that we are not created by an accident, God has a special purpose for each one of us and He will be with us to the end; so don’t look at yourself as how the world looks at, but see that you are God’s beloved child.
- God’s Goodness – Genesis 50:20 summarises the story of Joseph, who was sold by his own brothers as a slave, but said that God intended everything to be good. He never tried to run away but waited patiently for God’s timing. Joseph was able to go from a lowly slave to someone of a power because he lives his life on earth as in heaven; he didn’t see his circumstances but the goodness of God.
- God’s Reign – Psalm 29:10-11 shows us that everything happens in our lives is in God’s hands. God allows things to happen to wake us up. In history, when humans are pushed to the edge they learnt to be humble and seek God.
Just as how God command Joshua, we should also be strong and courageous, to see we are God’s chosen one, see God’s goodness in our lives, and God’s reign on our situations. God’s promise will never change and it is not by your strength or by your power that you are able to overcome your obstacles, but by God’s grace, love and blessing.
