Rev Daniel Poon
Today is Father’s Day, and Rev Daniel shared with us one of the well-known stories about fathers in the Bible, Luke 15:11-32, which is about the father and his two sons. From this story, Rev Daniel gave us things we should know about father’s love.
1. Understand of Fatherly Love – the father loved his sons without any reasons. When the prodigal son came back after spending all his father’s money, the father said, “Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found” (Luke 15:22). Our Heavenly Father loves us 100%, and this is the love the world can never promise us, so we need to understand, this is the fatherly love.
2. Overlook of Fatherly Love – the love is always there but we do not see it. The prodigal son focused on money and luxury of the world, but did not see that all he needed was the father’s love. Many times we look the worldly things more importantly than coming near the Heavenly Father. Even the older son did not see the father’s love and complained, but the father replied “you are always with me, and everything I have is yours” (Luke 15:31).
3. Respond of Fatherly Love – sometimes we understand the father’s love, we see it, but we fail to respond it. Rev Daniel shared that we should practice the love for our Heavenly Father by reading His Word, obeying His commands, spending time with Him everyday, and showing this love to others.
“He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction” (Malachi 4:6).
