Getting Started

Sunday, 5th October 2014

Rev. Daniel Poon

Recently, Rev. Daniel has been reminding us about forgetting the past, as God has already forgiven our sins and healed our past wounds. It’s time to look into the future. It’s just like going to a petrol station. What do we do after filling up the tank with petrol? Start the car! We should not only talking about starting a new life yet staying in the same place. It’s time for us to take the action and get started!

Being Christians, we know deeply that Jesus can take care of our old pasts and we can live a new life. Today, Rev. Daniel shared with us three important points about how to get started!

1. To Have a New Life

I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 11:19)

Rev. Daniel explained to us that an “Undivided Heart” means being “Completely Faithful to God”. Therefore, having a new life means that God will give us a new heart that is the heart of flesh. We will no longer need to carry the heavy heart of stone, but live a life completely faithful to Him.

2. To Live in God’s Word

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” (Ezekiel 36:26-27)

The Bible is so important to us and it’s a life guideline that will ever change. We should always keep a habit of reading and living in the Word of God, even if we start with a little amount of Bible reading each, we have got to start somewhere. It doesn’t matter if we only read a few chapters or verses each day, it’s not a competition. But as long as we read it carefully, digesting it daily, and really live it out. The Holy Spirit will help us to understand. And God always wants to best for us, He will guide us to heaven, not to hell.

3. To Build an Intimate Relationship with God

“Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.” (Ezekiel 11:20)

We need to have a close relationship with God, or otherwise we will lose our motivation to do anything. Rev. Daniel reminded us that it’s not by our might that we can get started, but it’s by God. We need to turn back to Him, know that no one on this earth can be as good as He can be to us. Everyday we make mistakes but God is good. He forgives us and helps us to get back to our feet. So today, let Jesus come to our lives, cast our worries to Him, and GET STARTED!
