Section One V1-4 Only Jesus, the One Called by God, Can 蒙神所召的耶稣才能
For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness. Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins. And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.
It is said, “those who are proficient in the world must have integrity to pass on, and those who have no integrity will fail to achieve it.” We must be proficient in God, know the way God works, and we can understand why God sent Jesus Christ to this world to save us. Everything Jesus did was for God, whereas many things we do are for ourselves. Jesus came to the earth as a human being, therefore He also had weakness, but He overcome all weaknesses, therefore we can also do the same. Jesus came to seek those who are sick, because only the sick needs the doctor. When we know we are the sick and the weak, and when we confess our sins, then God will come to us. Aaron knew his sins, he confessed his sins, and God chose him as the High Priest. Jesus did not sin, but He had weaknesses as a human being, therefore He overcome all temptations and experienced everything we experienced on this world. He understands us.
Jesus didn’t come to be the prince but the servant, He came to carry what we cannot carry, and He came to overcome what we cannot overcome. How can He have this power? He was chosen by God and called by God. Do we also believe that God called us and chose us? Do we believe that Jesus can so we also can? Do we long for the proficient in God, which Jesus has? What do we choose? The proficient in this world or the proficient in God?
Section Two V5-10 The High Priest has Received the Promise
So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “You are My Son, today I have begotten You.” As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek”; who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek.”
The High Priest has God’s promise and the appointment, and that’s why he could do what God instructed to do. God appointed Jesus Christ to be the High Priest like Melchizedek, He had God’s promise, which is to become the author of eternal salvation to us. It is the root of our eternal salvation and the authority of this world. Jesus has overcome the world and He has taken back the authority from the devil, but do we know the authority of Jesus and do we know that He has given this authority to us?
Jesus came to this world to do what God appointed Him to do, so we must learn from Jesus, not to do what we feel like to do, but what God instructs us to do; not to be princes and princesses, but to be servants like Jesus. Isaiah 61:1 says, “the Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” This is what Jesus did on this earth, this is the life Jesus revealed when He came to this world. Are we also doing the same? Are we bringing people to God or to ourselves? Jesus never thought about being Himself but only doing what the Father asked Him to do.
Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus told us to come before Him, He’s not talking to the non-believers, but to us, those following Him! We are often doing things by ourselves, we thought we strive to do God’s Work, but we don’t know to rest in God. We must know that all the works in our hands are from God and are out of God, so only by God, through His power, then we can accomplish.
Section Three V11-14 Those who are of Full Age can Discern
Of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
When we know we are the servants of God, are we willing to listen? Or do we continue to be rebellious, continue to ask questions and challenge God’s authority? We are the followers of God, we are not the master. But when we continue to rebel against God, when we continue to fight against God, then we can never understand. We want to be like God, we want to argue, we want to see the proof… but there is nothing we can fully understand in this world. We will never fully understand why God sent His only Son to us as a sacrifice, and God does not need to explain it fully to us, He only wants us to obey. This is the lesson of submission that we must learn, just like what Jesus did.
Even Jesus’ disciples did not fully understand, when Jesus sent them out two by two to preach the Gospel, they did not fully understand, even when Jesus died and rose again, they still did not understand. It’s when the Holy Spirit came upon them ion the Upper Room, then they begin to understand. Therefore stop arguing, stop using our own knowledge, and start walking with God. Simply submit to Him, partnership with Him, listen to Him, and let Him take over. Let us grow into maturity, stop being the babies, who only need milk, but to start eating solid food, step out the impossible, and enter true rest in God.
Let us experience God’s yoke and burden, which are easy and light. Then we can walk into the proficient of God, we will put down the ‘I’ and ‘me’, our prayers will no longer be a ‘wish list’, and we can grow into maturity. When we are growing into maturity, then we can discern both good and evil, which is not about right and wrong, but about what is from God and what is not from God. We will no longer be the master in our lives, we will no longer seek to be only the princes and princesses, but we can receive the eternal blessings from Heaven.
