Rev Daniel Poon
Every Christian longs for an open Heaven, for blessings to pour down to us. When Jesus was baptized, the Heaven opened for Him and Holy Spirit came down. As it says in the Bible, when we worship God with spirit and truth, the Heaven will open for us.
Rev Daniel shared with us Deuteronomy 28:1-2 “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God.”
God wants to set us high above all nations. We are in New Zealand, where the sun rises first of the world! God puts us in this nation for a purpose, but how can we receive this blessing?
1. Fully Obey
Jesus has given us the Greatest Commandment in Matthew 22:37-40 “Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Jesus taught us to love God and to love our neighbors. So how do we love God? By obeying His commands, step out, love the unlovable, help the poor and needy, share His love to those around us. When people are touched by our acts of love, they will eventually see Jesus; and when we begin to love, we will also experience more of Jesus’ sings and wonders in our lives!
2 Carefully Follow
The next step is the Greatest Commission from Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””
Our daily prayers should not focus on our needs, but the will of the Father. Jesus has already taught us how to pray, to ask God for His Kingdom to come and His Will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Because when we have the Heaven opened for us, then we will not need to worry about the daily things!
Jesus obeyed the Father, and He followed the Father’s Will, therefore the Heaven opened for Him. Even when He’s under temptation, He didn’t have to worry because God is with Him. God loves us, and He wants us to enjoy the life He gave us. Our mission on this earth is to experience Heaven when we are on earth, and Rev Daniel has already shared with us what to do: to obey and to follow!
God has already promised us in Deuteronomy 28:12, “The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.”
So now is the time to stop doing nothing, to step out, to love others to follow God’s will, and to see the Heaven open for us with God’s bounty and blessings!
