Section One: V1-12 Conviction 定罪

When we receive teaching, it’s for us to know our mistakes. Nathan came to David to bring him the teaching and disciplines of God. David knew he made the mistake because after he slept with Bathsheba, he sent her home and didn’t do anything else until he found out she was pregnant. Then he also tried to send Uriah home to cover this mistake. David knew he made the mistake but at the beginning he tried to cover it and refused to admit it. Later we will see the same patterns continued in his family.

God revealed to David that he gave David everything: his kingship, his wealth, his power, etc. but David allowed his lustful desires to guide him to sin and used his power and authority to do what he wanted to do. This is wicked in the eyes of God. God told David harshly His judgements and everything God said happened later on. Why was God being so harsh to David?

Section Two: V13-25 Admission 知罪

Unlike Saul, David knew and admitted his mistakes. In Psalm 51:5, David said he was sinful since he was born. Straight away David knew his sins when God reminded him through Nathan. Do we know our sins and mistakes when God told us? When we really know and admit our sins, God will wipe them away. But David needed to pay for his mistakes, there will be consequences to our mistakes, but God will not give us more than what we can bear. God loved David so He disciplined him. Both David and Bathsheba didn’t keep their covenant so their first child was born in sins.

In Hebrews 12:5-6 says God loves us so He disciplines us. When we are being disciplined we should not give up. Because only by love God will discipline us and give us teaching to make us turn back. When we are willing to turn back and not give up then we can receive the fruit of peace. A lot of people give up and leave because when they are being disciplined they feel rejected and abandoned.

David was not loved and recognized by his family since he was little. All his life he was searching for love and recognition. We are all searching for the same thing but only God can fulfil us and give us peace.

For seven days David didn’t eat anything but at the end the child still died. When David knew his son died he didn’t argue with or complain to God because he knew this child was born in his mistake. He bathed himself, got up and worshipped God, he didn’t stay in his emotions but gave thanks to God. Then David also comforted his wife. He really knew his mistake and showed it by action, he didn’t complain to God or to people, he still honored God. So God gave David a son, Solomon.

Section Three: V26-31 Return 回轉

As a sinner, David didn’t run away, he chose to face his mistakes and changed his way. He came to the battlefield with his army and God gave him favors. God loves us and keeps His covenant, He called us and touched us with His Holy Spirit. His love for us will never change, let us believe in Him and know His disciplines and teachings are for our own benefit.

Prayer & Pursuit

Thank You, Lord, through Your Holy Spirit and Your Word, we know we are loved and accepted. We are not abandoned and we are not nobody. If we are not loved You would not spend time to discipline us. You want us to bear the fruits of peace and righteousness. We’ve made mistakes in the past and we’ve sinned against You, but help us to turn back to You in action, to come close to You and to worship You. Help us to never stop following You and praising You in everything. We long to see Your Glory come and we know You will give us back all that we’ve lost. Amen.
