Section One: V1-7 The God of David is a Covenant-Keeping God

When we leave this world, what can we pass on to our next generations? We don’t know what will happen tomorrow, so we need to always reflect on our lives. David was honest, he knew he and his household were wicked. But God still saw him as David, the son of Jesse, God’s chosen, anointed and blessed one. In David’s old age, he spoke the Word of God and no longer his own words. Through the Word of God, David humbled himself and lifted up God.

We need to treasure the Salvation and Grace from God, then we can ensure all we pray and ask for are not from our own will but the Will of God. What are we really thinking inside our hearts? Do we have the assurance that God will fulfil our desires when we seek Him according to His Will? We need to think about the heavenly things and not to focus on the material world. We can learn from David, to start thinking about God’s Will instead of our own wills, and God will surely fulfill what’s missing in our lives!

David was no longer the same David, he was no longer the one who stayed in his own palace, the one who committed adultery with someone else’s wife, and the one who killed his own faithful servant. David decided to turn back to God and he experienced God’s faithfulness.

Section Two: V8-39 The God of David is a Providing God

How do we see our position? We might see ourselves as a nobody, but David brought an important message in today’s scripture that we’re not chasing after a title but we are to help our leaders and authority to fulfill what God wants us to do as a whole. When our authority is being supported, then they can lead us into God’s destiny. But we often do whatever we wanted to do, we become so busy in our own lives and miss out on God’s blessings for us. At the end, our names are not even written in the book of the Kingdom!

The three warriors went to get the water David wanted. It seemed like a difficult and unimportant task, but God had a different perspective. God will always prepare for us if we follow His heart, therefore do not be afraid when the tasks God gave to us seem too big. But be like the three warriors, who helped and supported David so he can fulfil God’s destiny for him. All of David’s warriors were in distress or in debt or discontented when they first followed David in the Cave of Adullam, but their lives were transformed and changed. Do we also allow God to transform our lives? Who do we really rely on? God our ourselves? Do we believe our God is real?

God has given us difficult tasks to fulfill because He wants our lives to be blessed. Do not be afraid of hardship, instead, let us give all our weaknesses to God today and believe He will prepare for us!

Prayer & Pursuit

Lord, we come before You, open ourselves to You, there are so much fear in us, because we care too much about the things of the world, of how others see us, and we cannot enter into the destiny You have given to us. Lord, You want to bless us, the tasks You have given to us seem difficult but You have already prepared for us. Lord help us, take away the weaknesses in us, rid of all the blockages in us so we can live under the Tree of Life and bear good fruits. Amen.
