Jesus Came for Us

Sunday, 23rd December 2018

Rev Daniel Xi An Poon

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Jesus was born as an ordinary person, like everyone of us. He came to bring three messages for us:

1. Jesus Came for Our Past

“But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)

We had lots of past memory which we want to forget and forgive, but we fail to do so. We may even try to hide them in a safe, but the burden is still on us. When we don’t deal with the past, our “new” start will just repeat the old patterns. Our effort doesn’t help make any difference in our life. We may have bad memory in our childhood that we haven’t sorted out, which we will bring to our marriage later on. Similar problems will come up in other areas of our life – work, interpersonal relationship, etc. Jesus came 2000 years to help us deal with our past. He sacrificed Himself on the cross, so all our past would be nailed on it. Jesus longs to set us free, and all we need to do is to believe

2. Jesus Came for Our Present

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

Nowadays it’s getting more and more common that people feel less secure. This is especially obvious when you go to the airport. We may think if we have more money, our worries will be less. No one knows what’s gonna happen tomorrow. But Jesus came to bring us comfort for our present. When we know that Jesus is with us, we will not need to worry about anything. We save money not because we worry about the future, but to make sure we have something ready when God calls us to do something great. God will never put us in shame, so just follow Him wholeheartedly. The benefit of being Christians is that there’s no need to struggle for getting luck in our life, but the “luck” is following us. We will have abundant blessings because we follow the GPS of our life – the Holy Bible. God knows everything and He carries everything for us!

3. Jesus Came for Our Future

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”(John 14:6)

We all know that everyone will die one day. Our body will certainly pass away, but the spirit inside is eternal, which can not be destroyed. Do you know where your spirit will go after your body has passed away? When some people couldn’t find the answer, they will just enjoy their current life without thinking about the true future. Some people might have tried to find special medicine to keep them alive for as long as they can. Some people may try to do lots of good things to earn eternal life. But Jesus said He is “the way and the truth and the life”, and “No one comes to the Father except through” Him. No one on this earth can proclaim this. Jesus knew about all the struggles we had in the past, but He loves us and doesn’t want to abandon you; He knows about what our worries about the present, and He knows about our future. No one in this world can help us solve all the problems in the past, present, or future, only Jesus can
