Psalm 12 – The Difference between God and Men 诗篇 12 – 人神大不同

Saturday, 28th August

Rev Daniel Xi An Poon

Section One V1-4 Emptiness and Idle of Men

During this time of the pandemic there are all different kinds of information around us. Should we stay in lockdown or not? Should we take the vaccination or not? How should we face the world with all these voices around us? Psalm 12 is more than just a psalm of prayer of David, it’s a life lesson.

When we face problems, it’s easy for us to see the negative side of things. David had no hope at the time, so he said the faithful disappeared and everyone was lying. It’s easy to make decision based on our feelings. We listen to others and use our emotions to judge. Men look at outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. We want to rely on our emotions and feelings, we think that this is our freedom to say and do anything we want. In here David chose to pray, and so was Jesus, when He was in distress, He chose to pray day and night.

Section Two V5-8 The Truth and Reality of God

David talked about those who were oppressed and lacking, those who faced difficulties, challenges, and poverty. Being poor doesn’t just mean those who are poor financially, but also anyone who is in need, physically and emotionally. We tend to forget that God can provide for us not only in our finance but also in our emotions. When we feel sad, depressed, abandoned, etc. we usually rely more on people than relying on God. But do we know that God will fight for us? Stop putting our focus on what we need are how our needs can be fulfilled by people, focus on God, let God fulfil us Himself.

We must learn how to seek God to fulfil our lacking in our emotions, do not rely on this world, because the world can never fulfil us. God will set us in safety, we don’t need to worry. Jesus came to heal us, to fulfil us and to give us abundance. God is so real, but we need to first let go of the things we hold onto tightly in our lives. Let God take over our emotions, He will look after us and protect us.

The wicked prowl on every side when vileness is exalted among the sons of men. What does God mean by wicked people? It appeared in the Bible for the first time in Genesis 18:23, ‘And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?”’ Those who don’t seek God are considered wicked. Do we seek God when we are lacking physically and emotionally? No matter what situation we are in, no matter what the world is, and no matter how our heart is, God is never changing, He is true, He is real, and He is waiting for us to seek Him.

Prayer and Pursuit

Let us pray together and seek Him, we want to stop being the wicked person, but the righteous, who seeks God in all things and fully relies on God.

Dear Lord, thank You for speaking to us, You will put us in the place of peace. You love us ad Your promises never fail. Lord, facing this unknown future and the everchanging world, we need You every day. Help us to seek You every day, not to be the wicked but be the righteous in You. Let Your Word cleanse us and shine upon us, so we can be the light like Jesus.
