Psalm 142 – Revelation in the Cave

Section One V1-2 – My Trouble

” I cry out to the Lord with my voice; with my voice to the Lord I make my supplication. I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare before Him my trouble.”

David used his voice to speak out his troubles to God. This was how he expressed his feelings to God. The world teaches us to listen to those who are troubled and not make any comments, but can this really help them? Only God can help us, and no matter how much teaching we give, if we don’t bring people to God then their problems will never be solved. Only God is our salvation and our fortress, why should we be afraid?

When we are in the cave, we should give our troubles to God. Where is our cave? Where is the place we go to hide from our God and to give excuses for not seeking God? Maybe it’s our work, our marriage, our children, our finance, our investment, etc. In our cave we should seek God, David knew this secrete.

Section Two – V3-5 God Knows

“When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then You knew my path. In the way in which I walk They have secretly set a snare for me. Look on my right hand and see, for there is no one who acknowledges me; refuge has failed me; no one cares for my soul. “I cried out to You, O Lord: I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”

We need to understand this important truth, God knows everything we are going through. When we have negative emotions and feel upset, it means our soul and spirit have lost direction. When this happens we need to ask God for healing. David asked God to see his right hand, the place of God’s blessings because he did not feel blessed.

God wants to bless us, but we tend to focus on the wrong direction, we focus on people instead of God. We are afraid to be abandoned, to be rejected, and to be hurt. A lot of people chose to give up on a relationship because they are afraid of being the one rejected. But God knows everything and when He comes to our lives we should no longer be afraid.

Section Three V6-7 – God Will Take Action

“Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than I. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name; the righteous shall surround me, for You shall deal bountifully with me.”

God knows our troubles and He will lead us out of prison. Why do we have so many troubles in our lives even when we believe in Jesus? Because we are still living in this world, and that’s why Jesus taught us in the Lord’s prayer, “May Your Kingdom come, on this earth as in heaven.” We need to live a live as in heaven.

Prayer & Pursuit

Lord, we all have a cave, which hides us and blocks us from seeing Your light. Help us to come out of our own cave and enter into Your presence. You know what our caves are, and when we are willing to expose ourselves before You, You will come into our lives and protect us. Let Your peace and joy be with all of us! You are the God, who brings light to us, we long to walk with You and be blessed by You. Amen.
