Rejoice Always – Free from Worries & Fears

Sunday, 30th May 2021

Pastor Kathy Poon

“And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:19)

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (I Peter 5:8)

A lot of times when things happen that we don’t know how to deal with, we will become worried and have fears. We live in two worlds, the material world and the spiritual world, and when we are fear and worry, the devil from the spiritual world will attack us, then we will make the wrong decision in the material world. Fear is a negative faith, it is when we believe in the negative things happen in our lives and let fear overcome us.

A. Fears hinder blessings and worries do more harm than help (Genesis 3:10, Luke 12:25)

The traits of worries are that 99% of the things we worry about will never happen. Worrying doesn’t help with the situation but its influence spreads easily. Do we have fears and worries? As humans we constantly live in fears and worries, but as Christians there are four spiritual laws of peace that we can learn to get rid of all these fears and worries!

1) True peace comes from God and transcends circumstances (John 14:27)

Jesus told us not to be afraid, He said these words when He was captured and about to be crucified on the cross. When facing such a great fear, Jesus still had the true peace. In the same way Jesus can also give us this true peace that transcends circumstances.

2) Prayer brings peace, with all things committed to God (Philippians 4:6-7)

In everything we should pray and give thanks, even small thoughts going through our mind. When fear, anger or sadness come, commit it to God straight away, there is nothing we cannot tell God about.

3) Good words remove worries and make good friends (Proverbs 12:25)

Can we let go of our worries and anxiety by telling them to others? We must be careful to choose the people, who we share our worries with. In the same way, we should also be someone, who can speak good words to help others, instead of letting their worries expand.

4) Love can make one perfect and cast out fear (1 Joh 4:18)

Love can change a person, and perfect love comes from our Heavenly Father. A lot of time we would try to use threating words or discipling to control others and get rid of our fear. But Jesus showed us that only by love, the emptiness in our hearts can be fully filled.

When we look into our hearts we will feel sad, when we look at the environment we will be disappointed, but when we lift up our eyes to Jesus we will see hope. Fix our eyes are Jesus is the only way, and when we are in the presence of God, everything around us is not important anymore. Then we can receive the true peace.

B. The formula to kick out worries and fears (Mark 4:35-41)

1) Call on Jesus to calm down the storms

2) Rebuke the wind and waves

3) Trust with all your heart and cast out fear

4) Proclaim by faith and receive peace

5) Be free from worries in praises
