Rev Daniel Xi An Poon

Section One V1-11 Comes from Jesus Christ

V1-2 ‘Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.’ Our attitude is important, what is our attitude when we come to worship God? Our attitude determines our altitude in the Kingdom of God. We must have respect for the Word of God and know what a blessing it is that we can come before God to listen to His Word. Nothing should stop us to come and receive what God has prepared for us. So, what is it that God has prepared for us? We often use physical things to determine if God loves us or not. This is too shallow, God gives us a house, God gives us a car, God gives us a job, God gives us a family… but it’s more than that. God has prepared much better things for us than all these things!

Matthew 11:19 says, ‘The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.’ To be justified by faith is related to wisdom, and wisdom comes from the fear of the Lord. Therefore, being justified by faith can also mean having the fear and reverence for what Jesus Christ has done us. We need to know what Jesus Christ has done for us, through Jesus, we can:

  1. Have Peace with God (V1)
  2. Enter the Grace of God (V2)
  3. Be Saved by God (V10)
  4. Rejoice in God (V11)

When Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from God, when they hid from God, they made God their enemy. We are also like them, when we hide in the cave and chose not to come before God, then we make God our enemy. Therefore, we must block all the caves we can hide, stop hiding in our houses, stop hiding in our work, stop hiding behind the computer… but to come out and have a relationship with God. When we decide to come out from our caves, we should also not worry about how others think, but sing, dance, and worship before God. We come before God and worship Him to please Him, not to please ourselves or other people. Don’t bring worldly values to God, but to receive the Godly Grace and bring it to the world!

V3-4 ‘And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.’ We must let God receive the glory in our sharing, and through sharing the low points in our lives we can see God’s Work in our lives. We must know that we are not sufficient, everything we have is from God, and all our mistakes or corrections from God or from our authority are for our own good. Through our failures and mistakes, and through teaching and corrections, then we can be better and more like Jesus. We must have hope and not be discouraged in challenges and hardship.

V5 ‘Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.’ God is not our loving Father, and He will not put us to shame, and He will not disappoint us. But a lot of time, we use how we look at our earthly father to look at our Heavenly Father. We think our parents have hurt us and wronged us, so in the same way, we cannot receive the perfect love from our Heavenly Father. Let us use the opposite attitude to see the love of God, who loves us perfectly, and when we believe in it, then we can also believe in the love from our parents.

V10-11 ‘For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.’ Can we also rejoice in Christ? Do people around us know we are Christians? We must learn to live truthfully, be the same person inside and outside.

Section Two V12-14 Comes from Men

V12-13 ‘Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.’ The values of the world have been passed down from our parents and grandparents, to work hard, have a good degree, have a good job and earn lots of money. They meant good for us, but when we focus too much on saving money for ourselves and our children, we fail to see God’s purposes in our lives. We live like slaves, the slaves of money, and when this attitude is passed down to our children, they will also become the slaves of money.

We can no longer receive the love of God because we lack nothing. Our parents have already provided everything for us, and we pass on the same thing to our children. God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the blessings to be passed down are not money, but God Himself. Money should be used wisely, not to make us slaves and not to bring us fear when we don’t have enough of it. In the same way, when we offer, we should offer willingly, and know that everything is from God so we should also do everything for God.

V14 ‘Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.’

Section Three V15-21 God Overcomes Everything

V15 ‘But the free gift is not like the offence. For if by the one man’s offence many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.’ Gifts are blessings from God. We make many mistakes, but God’s grace is sufficient for us. When we turn back to God and be convicted in sins, in judgement and in righteousness, then God’s blessings will come upon us. Don’t just leave God and leave God’s church when there are problems between people, but come before God and ask for more Grace. In the places of sins, we see grace. Let us live with a thankful heart and a willing attitude, when we turn back to God then we can see He has already overcome it all!

  1. 得与神相和(V1);
  2. 得进入现在所站的这恩典中(V2);
  3. 得救(V10);
