The Belief of Being Blessed

Sunday, 31st January 2016

Rev. Daniel Poon

This morning Pastor Daniel shared a story about Jesus and His disciples after His resurrection:

Matthew 28:17-18 (NIV) 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Some disciples – those willing to follow and commit their life to Jesus – worshiped Jesus when they saw Him. Similarly, we all rely on our eyes and we want to see first before we worship. However, the Bible teaches us in John 4:24 (NIV)24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

Pastor pointed out that to worship in the Spirit is to build up a relationship between you and God, which requires you to spend quality time with Him regularly; and the truth means the Word of God, which we need to read everyday. A healthy relationship with God will help us hear God and know His will.

Why did some disciples still doubt after seeing Jesus? This might be due to lack of faith. To overcome this problem, Pastor shared a verse with us:

Hebrew 11:6 (NIV): And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

The devil is trying to put the seed of doubt in your heart in order to destroy your relationship with God, however, you “must believe” in God. This faith in is not about having Jesus to fulfil all our desires, but to believe that He will give us eternal life.

Are you only looking for the earthly benefits that Jesus will bring to you, or are you willing to give yourself to Jesus? Pastor gave us this question to reflect upon, and encouraged us with the following 2 scriptures:

Psalm 3:3-5 (NIV): But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and He answers me from His holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.

Psalm 28:7 (NIV): The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
