The Lord is My Shepherd

Sunday, 15th March 2020

Rev Daniel Xi An Poon

Everyday we are being fed of negative things, the news, the diseases, wars… we see negative things from the news and we hear negative things from people. But we need to believe that the Lord is our Shepherd and everything He intends for us is good.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. (Psalm 23)

The Lord is our Shepherd, He’s the Shepherd of Bread of Life in South Auckland. Sheet follows the Shepherd, being fed, taught, and disciplined. The rod and the staff are for the sheet to walk on the righteous way. God gives us a hope for a better tomorrow and He has solutions for all our fears.

FEAR OF SHORTAGE

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. (Matthew 9:36)

King David knows the secrete that everything is about God, not about us. If we try to be God and ask God to fulfill our needs then we can never be satisfied with our lives.

FEAR OF DEATH

Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. (1 Corinthian 5:7)

Our lives are created by dust, without the breath of God, we can never have life, therefore the best way is to humble ourselves and let God take over our lives and we will no longer be fearful. Do we trust in God, who loves us and provides all our needs? He can restore our souls and give us peace.

FEAR OF SUFFERING

In as much then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Hebrews 2:14-15)

FEAR OF ENEMY’S ATTACK

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. (1 Peter 5:8-9)

The key to stay away from enemy’s attack is to stay alert. Jesus came to give us life but enemy is trying to make us afraid. David said one thing he longed for was to stay in the Lord’s temple forever. We should also seek the Lord always and stay in His presence.
