“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:10-12)
We are fighting against the unseen spirit and the Bible taught us to stand up and fight against it. The enemy is unseen and it has strategies so how can we fight against this enemy? There is warfare in our church, our workplace, our marriage, our health, even in our thoughts. Therefore we need to understand this warfare, and today’s focus is on the spirit of Jezebel.
God has already given us the Spirit of Might, like what He has given to David, Elijah and Jesus, to resist the devil and to stand firm. Through prayer we can push back the devil.
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” (Malachi 4:5-6)
In the end time, there will be an outpouring of the spirit. And God will send us the spirit of Elijah. Elijah is the prophet, who went against Jezebel. The spirit of Jezebel comes to control and to destroy.
“Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshipped him. Then he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. And Ahab made a wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.” (1 Kings 16:30-33)
Ahab was called to be the king over Israel, but he fell by marrying Jezebel and worshipped the false gods. The spirit of Jezebel leads us to worship the idols and in the same way, this spirit of Jezebel is in our church nowadays.
“Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.” (Revelation 2:20)
God is rebuking the church for tolerating the spirit of Jezebel and not fighting against it. So what exactly does the spirit of Jezebel do?
1. It leads us to worship the idol
Is there anything that leads us away from God? The things that stop us worship God and distracts us from reading the Bible, praying or going to church?
2. It undermines the lawful authority
God established authorities so there are order, governance and peace. But the spirit of Jezebel came to break this order and to undermine the authority. It manipulates people and hardens their hearts to go against God.
And Ahab made a wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him. (1 Kings 16:33)
3. It attacks and destroy the prophetic ministry and stops the supernatural
“For so it was, while Jezebel massacred the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty to a cave, and had fed them with bread and water.” (1 Kings 18:4)
The spirit of Jezebel hates the prophetic ministry. If we are called to the
prophetic ministry, then the spirit of Jezebel will do everything to against us
and therefore we need to stand up and fight. Jezebel killed all the prophets
and came against Elijah to stop the move into the supernatural. We need to
stand up against this spirit. God is still looking for Elijah and we should be
willing to say yes to God!
4. It undermines and destroys our God-given identity and removes
Jezebel worshipped the gods that turn man into woman and turn woman into man. The spirit of Jezebel seeks to destroy the identity God has created us to be. We need to recognize it and come against it.
There is always warfare when we are trying to pass on the legacy to the
next generations. Churches and parents need to be intentional in investing in their children and grandchildren. Jezebel attacks our identity, when we try to stand up, this spirit will say, “who do you think you are?”
Therefore we need to know who we are, we are the children of God and there is nothing and no-one can stop up stepping into the destiny God has given to us. So do not be tricked by the devil, know who we are and stand firm in God!
5. It undermines and destroys the Kingdom order in relationships
The spirit of Jezebel undermines the husbands, the pastors, manipulating,
misrepresenting, undermining the Kingdom order. God has an order for us, there is a king, a governor, and the devil tries to destroy this order. We have
authority when we are under authority.
The head of every woman is man, the head of every man is Christ, and the
head of Christ is God. If the head doesn’t take his authority and stand up, if
he doesn’t pray for his family, and if he withdraw and become passive, then the marriage won’t work, the relationship won’t work and there will not be a family. The spirit of Jezebel is afraid for the Kingdom order to take place, therefore it will try to stop it to work.
A lot of time there is a lack of respect in the family and in the church. This is a lack in the heart. If our heart is hurt and broken, then we will become the target of the spirit of Jezebel. It will use our hurt to fight against our authority.
6. It creates bitterness and division
“And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” (Malachi 4:6)
There will be a lot of divisions in the family, from the deep roots of bitterness, anger, pain, etc. that become resistance to the family. In the end time, God wants to restore the relationships so we should tell our family and friends how much we love them, to restore the relationship and to forgive the wrongs people have done in our lives.
We need to break free from the spirit of Jezebel. Ahab married Jezebel and his life was in bondage because of her. He thought he would get something but it cost him everything. So when we become entangled by ungodliness and compromised with the devil.
We need to surrender ourself in the Holy Spirit and forgive those who hurt us. The more we want to protect ourselves, the more we are building a wall with God and coming closer to Jezebel. When we try to control our pain and our hurt, we are opening a door for the spirit of Jezebel to come in. Therefore we should let go of the pain to God, because Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and to bring us back to the Father.
We need to come before our eternal God because only Hs can substitute our hurt and pain. Come into His divine order, obey Him and come into His flow. Then we can break free from the spirit of Jezebel.
Now it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” So he answered, “What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?” (2 Kings 9:22)
Now Jehu drew his bow with full strength and shot Jehoram between his arms; and the arrow came out at his heart, and he sank down in his chariot. (2 Kings 9:24)
Now when Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head, and looked through a window. (2 Kings 9:30)
We should never make peace with the spirit of Jezebel, It will try to seduce us in every way to prominence, but we need to know, in God’s Kingdom, there is no compromise. We can only choose to be on God’s side or on the devil’s side.
“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”(Luke 10:19)
God has already given us the authority to destroy the devil. He has empowered us, as the children of God, we have a new status, a new identity, so we should take the Word of God, restore the identity and fight this battle with the Power of Jesus!
