To Know Our God

Sunday, 5th April 2020

Rev Daniel Xi An Poon

The COVID-19 death toll all around the world is growing fast. The whole world is facing the same problem, and this is the time we turn to God. But do we really know our God?

1. He is the Lord

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you; therefore I will give men for you, and people for your life. Fear not, for I am with you;
I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth—Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (Isaiah 43:1-7)

God told us in Exodus, “I am who I am”, He didn’t say “I was”, or “I will be” because He is the present God. We need to have confident to know that He is the Creator God, because all the engineers or designers know best about their products, same with God, He knows us more than we know ourselves. God create s not for us to suffer but to subdue the earth, be fruitful and to multiply. So we can take dominion over this world with the power and authority given by God.

When we know this, we should be able rise above all our problems, because God is higher than all!

2. He is our Saviour

God keeps on telling us that He is with us and we don’t need to be afraid. What stopped the Israelite entering into the Promised Land? Their faithless hearts. They wanted to hold onto the things they could see, feel, rely on, and refused to hold on to the eternal God. Nothing in this world can give us security like God does. God uses His way to save us, which we may not understand at the beginning. But what we need to do is obey and follow. When we become a humble follower, God will show us the way.

This is a good time for us to reflect on our relationship with God. He has chosen us because He loves us, so are we willing to respond to Him with a prayer alter, to seek His presence to always be with us?

3. He is a Creator

He is the King, the Ruler, and everything belongs to Him. God will lead us to fight and win the battle, all we do is to trust in Him, to follow Him, to honour Him. In Hosea 6:3 it says to let God’s light and rain come. It’s time for us to get to know God, have quality time with Him, seek Him and follow His will for us.
