What Drives Your Life?

Sunday, 16 February 2014

Pastor Kathy Poon (Shimu)

It says in Ecclesiastes 4:4 (LB) that “I observed that the basic motive for success is the driving fore of envy and jealousy!”

The famous Scottish philosopher, Thomas Carlyle, also said, “The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder – a waif, a nothing, a no man.” We know it’s important to live a purpose driven life, but what is the driving force in our lives? Shimu shared with us 5 things that often drive the decisions we made in life.
1. Many People are driven by guilt.  被罪駕馭的人
2. Many People are driven by resentment and anger. 被忿恨駕馭的人
3. Many People are driven by fear. 被恐懼駕馭的人
4. Many people are driven by materialism.  被物質享受駕馭的人
5. Many People are driven by the need for approval. 被別人的期望駕馭的人

Shimu asked us “how do we live a life with the purpose given by God?” The most important thing is to KNOW YOUR PURPOSE! Because knowing your purpose:

1.Gives meaning to your life 生活有意義 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
2. Simplifies your life 簡化你的生活“You, Lord , give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)
3. Focuses your life 使人生更專注“Therefore don not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:17)
4. Motivates your life 生命才會有動力
5. Prepares you for eternity 預備你面對永生

We weren’t put on earth to be remembered, but to be able to give an account of our life, when we stand before God one day. Therefore, it’s important for us to know our purpose and focus on living it out! “For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord,Every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:10b-12)
